FISKARS PRINT &
DIGITAL WORK

Along with packaging and product design, which are featured on another page, I also designed pieces for print, digital and trade shows. Fiskars, known best for their orange handled scissors, engineers and develops products for all aspects of the home, from outdoor yard care and home improvement, to sewing, crafting and the classroom. I worked primarily on the sewing and crafting side of the business.

Print Ads

Listed first is the ad campaign for Fiskars Amplify™ Shears, both fabric and craft. This campaign focused on 3 things: the beauty of the scissors themselves, the array of difficult materials that these shears could cut, and the projects that could be created with those materials. All photography used in this campaign was constructed, created and photographed specifically for Amplify™.

Other print ads were created specifically for Hobby Lobby's quarterly magazine. Following an established 3 page template, each quarter features a different product and craft project that can be created with that product. While the template already existed, and the craft project photography was provided, I was responsible for creating the overall layout, including: creating the background image for the front page, selecting a color palette based on the project and season, and finding stock photography or taking original photography where needed.

Less common print ads utilized original lifestyle photography. We worked with a professional photographer and set designer to select specific locations, models and props that would create the exact image needed for each mini product campaign. Beginning first with the right messaging and constructing the photos from there.

In-Store Signage

Other print pieces we commonly created focus around the product planogram in stores. JOANN Frabric & Craft stores were usually the most open to our header, violator and other signage suggestions. What I've provided here are a selection of header signs I created during my time at Fiskars. These signs usually highlighted a product or product category that the section of POG contained. The first set of 6 headers are examples that primarily used photography that Fiskars already owned, including product and project photos. However, images such as the layered papers for the corner squeeze punch and the images for the clear stamps had to be created from scratch.

The second set of header signs adopted a new, more colorful style. These signs use primarily unique, custom photography. With the help a professional photography studio that Fiskars often partners with, myself and another designer hand made most of the projects featured as well as purchased fabrics and papers that we used to stage the other photos.

Internal Posters

These posters were created and displayed within Fiskars U.S. corporate office in Madison, WI. The cleaner designs are better representations of the corporate Fiskars brand. As a global leader in product design and engineering, and a corporate location in Finland, Fiskars strongly believes in the power of simplicity. These posters are meant to highlight the beauty of their custom engineered products and the resulting landscape.

Sales Materials

Majority of sell sheets created were simple, featuring the product itself and focusing on the designs produced. However, sell sheets for new products such as the Fuse Creativity System® required further explanation of the product itself, how it's used and exactly what it produces.

Corporate Events

This booklet was created for the 2012 Management meeting held in Madison, WI. Previous years meetings were held in other parts of the world and materials were designed by the Fiskars teams in those areas. This booklet not only needed to list the agenda for the three day event, but also needed to act as a guide for educating Fiskars global employees on the U.S. location, highlight local attractions. Keeping the simple look that is Fiskars corporate, I created a brochure that combines simple typography with beautiful photography from a local Madison artist.

Trade Shows

For the 2013 CHA trade show, Fiskars focused it's entire booth around the new product launch for their Fuse Creativity System®. While the booth contained areas to educate consumers on the product, it focused primarily on what the Fuse was capable of creating. The booth floor had oversized stickers of letterpress designs, and large shadow boxes contained inspirational art created using the Fuse Creativity System. The center of the booth was also split in two, featuring two themed rooms that showcased projects and decor created with the system.

Digital

In addition to print, I helped create pieces for the website, Facebook and digital ads based on designs we had already established. For example, digital ads created for Amplify™ Shears and those for the Fuse Creativity System® follow the looks developed for those products in print. Also shown here are rotating headers and additional web graphics I created for the Amplify™ Shears product page on Fiskars.com. Lastly are graphics created for a back to school Facebook promo. Headers for Fiskars home page and the event page, as well as individual post images were created to encourage sharing and engagement.
